Let us worship Him who resides in vadari when we are still young and healthy. When we become very old we need the help a stick to walk. Even then we find difficult to walk because of hunch back. If we want to sit after a long walk (if it all we go) there is difficulty to sit. Before all these happen let us worship Him now.

Oh! Stupid men! Worship BagavAn at tiruvadari before you become too old. When you become old you won’t have either strength or mind to worship Him. With one hand holding the back, with the other holding a staff, with back bent down to earth, with loud cough, with body trembling violently, with young girls teasing and laughing at you – how can you think of God?

you fool! Don’t think you will be young forever. You are certainly going to get old. The veins protrude on the skin giving an ugly look; the muscles become loose losing their strength; mind becomes weak; when walking the mind and the eyes cannot concentrate on what is on the street; getting giddy in the head you stop and become deluded as to what to do. Oh! Mind! Think of all these and have vivEka. Make haste to love BagavAn and worship Him in vadari.

Always coughing, eyes losing luster, having “peeLai” at the corners, walking unsteadily, getting pain in the legs – all these happen when old age advances. Therefore before this condition occurs to you, worship emberumAn at tiruvadari and meditate on His guNas and chEShTitas like lifting of the gOvardhana mountain etc., born in the Ayar kula. Before this happens go and worship Him in tiruvadari.

The old man who walks with the help of a staff talks about his good old days when he used to be a favorite of women; used to kiss them and enjoy their courtship. While narrating he would cough interrupting his speech. Somehow he would recover himself and again start his story. Again and again he would cough so much that he would not proceed any further. He would walk away with the help of his staff but fails many times in his attempt. Finally he walks home unsteadily musing over his past. Oh! Fools! You think you are young and proud of it now. This man was also very young and handsome like you. Look at him now! It doesn’t take long for you to become like him. Beware! Awake now to the realization of God. Worship Him at vadari.

When the old man starts speaking his voice gets chocked because of phlegm. He coughs continuously. Due to illness and age he becomes weak and thin. Not only his body, even the intellect is veiled. He speaks whatever comes to his mind like a mad man. Before this state of affair comes to you, you better worship Him at vadari, sing His names and guNas. He is our father, sarva swAmi, moola kAraNa and rakShaka too.

Even when the old man is not talking the phlegm collects in his throat making him not talk any more. The young girls laugh at him and say “see how he has grown old” and laugh loudly. The young girls who are relatives also join them in the laughter. Oh! Men! Before people laugh at you like this worship Him who is at vadari.

The desires do not die even if one grows old and is affected by diseases. The old man waits at the doorstep of young women seeking their pleasures. But they don’t care for him neither do they want him. They drive him away with humiliating words. Oh! Man! Think again and conclude that these will not get you suKa. Only the devotion at His feet will fetch you the unending Ananda. So worship Him who resides in vadari at all times even when you are young.

The old man feels shy to be in the crowd because - the indriyas become weak; the mind becomes deluded; the throat is full of phlegm; the speech is nonsensical. Therefore before you grow old go to vadari and worship Him where Baktas go carrying tuzhasi mAla in their hands to offer them at His tiruvaDi.

tirumangai AzhwAr, the chief of tirumangai where tAzham poo bushes are used as fencing, has sung these pASuras on vadari emberumAn. Those Baktas who read, sing and dance will certainly rule over paramapada and not any other lOka.
